How did you two meet?

I had just moved back to Texas from Nashville, TN where I had been living since graduating college. I was missing my Tennessee life, but was happy to be closer to family. I had been back two months and my friend since middle school ( Kevin- our best man), invited me to a Super Bowl party. I brought my mother’s world famous cola cake ( ok maybe not world famous but DAMN GOOD). Kevin and Tyler had become really good friends while I was living in Tennessee, but I have never heard of him or met him. Tyler told me he was an Aggie, a bridge engineer and living in Austin. He also teasingly told me he hated my cake…. So at this point he has two strikes- Aggie grad and dissing my mom’s cake! He and I talked about all the cool places for him to check out in Austin and that was that. I went home and life continued. However, I told my friends, “I met this guy I could see myself with… you know someone like him, not him though. “ Fast forward a couple months , he and I became fast friends and according to Snapchat we were best friends. So you know something is brewing when Snapchat gets involved. The magic really started to happen when I had an extra ticket to the Spurs Finals 1 game against the Heat in 2014, the one where the AC went out. I had exhausted all my options of who to invite, no one wanted to pay, so as a last last last resort I offered to Tyler. He JUMPED on it and came the game with me, my mom and her boyfriend. Our love of the Spurs, specifically Kawhi, solidified our connection. My transition back to Texas was not easy, but God had a bigger plan for me and I couldn’t be more thankful to Him for bringing Tyler into my life.

How did you choose your engagement locations? Why those locations?

Even though we are getting in San Antonio (my hometown), we live and fell in love in Austin. Our favorite summer (maybe year round in this Texas heat) is Bull Creek. We love to take our energetic dog there, hike, and float in the water. We had BIG plans to have an awesome shoot at the creek, but Texas decided to have a downpour the day of our engagements. Great! Texts all day between Jackie, Tyler and I, we had to audible to an option with better coverage and less flooding. Jackie found some funky cool spots on the East side of Austin. Her go with the flow attitude, rubbed off on us high strung people ( he’s an engineer and I’m in ICU nurse- hello type A) and we couldn’t be happier. We are in the city where we fell in love with each other, so does it even really matter if we are in front of a blue wall or on the trail? I think not

Who proposed? How?

From Tyler: I proposed on April 16th. Like all days we plan to be outside, it rained all day and week leading up to the proposal. I got a bed and breakfast in Fredericksburg for the weekend and told Rachel we should go hike Enchanted Rock and then drive on to spend some time with her family (That way she would pack a bag for the weekend). The morning of the proposal I woke up and was immediately showered and ready to go. I convinced Rachel that the rain would let up and we could still enjoy our hike. On the drive out it was raining pretty steadily but since we were already on the way I said we may as well at least see the conditions when we get there. Upon our arrival the park rangers informed us of the upper trails being closed, so I had to change my entire plan to propose at the "scenic overlook" on the outer trail. While we were waiting to buy our pass into the park, Rachel noticed that I wasn't hugging her or holding her at all. This was due to a combination of nerves, and not wanting her to feel the ring box in my pocket. I told her that I had to pee to throw her off my scent. After getting our pass it was onto the trail. Halfway to the overlook we encountered a group of 20-30 elementary school students. My heart sank. I grabbed Rachel's hand and we scooted around them at record speeds to avoid them crowding the overlook when we got there. Right as we got to the overlook we were in a tiny dumb argument over whether certain movies we like were actually good, or we just watched for the leading male/female characters. I said to Rachel, "I'm going to need you to drop this right now". Of course she didn't and so I turned it into the intro to my proposal. "Rachel, the reason I need you to drop this is because I have something much more important to say.... (I would go into my speech but I think after this I kind of froze up and got on a knee and before I could even say Will you marry me, she cut me off and said Yes!). The hike back to the car was awesome even though it was pouring rain. We called all of our family and friends, and enjoyed a great night in Fredericksburg before heading to SA and catching a Spurs game with our friends.

How he/she pick your engagement ring?

From Tyler: I knew what Rachel wanted in a ring. Thin gold band, diamonds on the sides and a shiny rock on top. I had the picture in my head of what she wanted and spent a lot of time at several different jewelry stores trying to find the perfect one. I Finally found the perfect band, but it was only on display in silver. I had to trust that it was going to look good in gold, but the size was perfect and it had a low setting for the diamond which is great for Rachel because she is a nurse and always working with kids. I ordered the band and moved on to picking out the perfect diamond. I looked a lot of different options based on size/clarity/cut and eventually chose the one that had the best cut and clarity. It made the ring shine beautifully when the light hit it. Her reaction when she saw the ring was worth all of the effort.

How did you choose your wedding date? What is your Venue? How did you choose it?

We didn't want a long engagement, we are ready to get this thing started! Tyler said he doesn't want a fall wedding...Why not, fall is beautiful?! Right, my thoughts exactly. Well, this is Texas, and football season is in the fall. So he said we simply could not have a wedding then, all our friends would be on their phones checking scores ( he probably means the groom too- Aggies are diehard. ) I probably would have agreed with him if Texas football was relevant…. Hook em! So we agreed on the Spring, March felt like the right month and March 4th is the only day of the year that is also a command! We are getting married at Zaza Gardens in San Antonio. I grew up in SA and he's a military brat and family was stationed there. We wanted one place for ceremony and reception in one spot to make things easier on our guests. Zaza has all the elements we love, outdoor ceremony site with a garden feel and indoor exposed brick- we love it!

What are you most excited about for your wedding day?

From Tyler: 1st place, finally getting to see Rachel in her dress. 2nd place, the mini chocolate chip cookies. From Rachel: The moment we are announced husband and wife. I'm so ready to be his wife!

What have you learned with planning that you'd like to share with other brides?

I would say, do what you want. You can easily go down a black hole of wedding stuff, but the truth of it is, its YOUR day. There is no must do and must have on one of the biggest days of your lives. So do what makes you happy and fits your personalities. Make it personal and let go of all the expectations. Easier said than done, but that mindset helped me!

Wedding Date:

September 24

Who proposed and how?

Ryan proposed in Las Vegas. It was my 30th birthday and he was extremely nervous all day! We flew to Vegas that day and were having dinner at STK with my sister and a big group of friends. He kept asking where we were opening gifts...I kept telling him not to worry about it and I didn't really care about gifts. It was getting late and we headed back to the hotel for a drink which is where he finally popped the question. I was definitely caught of guard as I wasn't expecting it! I think I spent 1/2 an hour with him in the bathroom in total disbelief and sharing in the moment privately-I just needed a moment with just the two of us.

How long was your engagement?

Our engagement lasted close to 1 1/2 years. We decided to take that time to plan and save money...lots of planning!

What was the most fun about wedding planning? What was the hardest?

The fun part was going to bridal shows, looking for dresses and choosing a cake. The hardest was making decisions! I tried on a ton of dresses before deciding which style fit with my body.

Wedding location:

San Antonio

Ceremony Venue:

St. Francis

Reception Venue:

The Veranda

How did you choose your venues?

We loved the outdoor space at the Veranda. We also loved that it was so close to our home and church, we love this area! The Veranda is right in the city, but being there feels like you are way out of the city. We loved all the green areas, places for pictures and the huge space. We chose St. Francis because this is our church we attend and we always feel right at home at St. Francis.

Describe your flowers:

Hydrangeas, roses, dusty miller....

Describe your decor and how you chose it?

I chose all the decor with a little help from our wedding coordinator. I found our candle holders on my own and just about wiped out a chain store in town for every single crystal candle holder! I also bought our vases and found the floral arrangement on pinterest. I made some trial floral arrangements and had the wedding coordinator make all of our large florals for the wedding so I could be stress free the day of.

Tell me about your attire – who designed your dress and where did you buy it?

My wedding dress is by Allure and I purchased it in Sugar Land, TX at La Reve Bridal Couture. I tried on so many dresses in San Antonio and the Houston area and one day decided to finally go by myself to try some dresses on. I had so many opinions on what looked good and did not that I really just needed to decide myself. Thanks goodness I did because I made the decision that day! I had Julie from Julie's alterations in Houston basically re-create the dress for me. The dress was HUGE on me but didn't realize until I took it home. She was able to practically remake the dress to fit me perfectly.

What shoes did you choose and what jewelry did you wear?

My shoes I found on a whim from Antonio Melani. My jewelry was from Nadri and very dainty. I don't normally wear dangle earring so I made sure to find studs that were elegant but that wouldn't take away from my dress and veil.

Any other significant accessories?

My veil was very special. I had found it in a boutique but discovered that it was coming from Los Angeles where my sister had recently moved. I asked her if she knew where the store was and she was able to go and purchase it for me! It was nice because she tried it on to make sure it was the right length and got it for me as a gift. That was very special and meaningful to me and i'll always think of her when I see that veil. The lace veil was the best part of my look!

Why did you choose me, Jackie , to be your wedding photographer?

I chose Jackie because of her style and editing photography. I knew I wanted a photographer who was not only able to just take photos but also capture emotions and reactions in photos. We have so many photos of Ryan and I but also family that are so special. I love the editing process Jackie uses as well. She captures such amazing detail and colors!

What was one of your favorite moments from your wedding day?

My favorite moment from our day was probably choosing to have the Mariachis play our first song. We had a song selected and had practiced so much. But having the amazing Mariachis there and feeling the love between Ryan and I as they played was amazing. Rigth before they introduced us I asked Ryan if he wouldn't mind having them play a song for us and he agreed. I asked them to play a Luis Miguel love song for us and they said sure. It was special because of the meaning of the song and Luis Miguel has always been a favorite of my mom's so it made me think of her as well.

Did any of your other vendors go above and beyond for you?

They all did! Debbie from Oak leaf made sure to add details to my bouquets so that the bridesmaids could carry them but to make sure we could also use them as centerpieces. I can't stress enough about having a wedding planner or day of coordinator. They were such a huge help to Ryan and I not only the day of the wedding but they helped a lot throughout the planning process.

Do you have any tips to share with other couples?

Have a wedding planner! But most importantly, try to capture every moment of your day. It truly does fly by so quickly you'll be left wishing you could re-play it over and over.

How did you two meet?

I was in a bike shop one day trying to decide on which bike to buy. I had never really ridden seriously before. Jonathan approached me and proceeded to give me his recommendation on a new bike, but I think he was just trying to get my attention. It worked. I think I won him over with my feisty side. I had grabbed some stickers and slapped them to his hairy arm. What's even worse, I pulled one off. I was definitely flirting elementary style and he ended up giving me his number. He said since I was new to cycling he'd give me breaking lessons, no charge. Lol, I got more than lessons. We planned a bike ride in the following few days and it was really while on that two hour ride that the door to dating opened. We talked the entire time and learned so much about each other. It was the most open and honest, unfiltered, and funny conversation; just different in the best kind of way. He was kind and gentle and he didn't leave me on the bike. He stayed right by my side the entire time. That is the man you want to marry!

How did you choose your engagement locations? Why those locations?

Hotel Emma wasn't quite finished before I moved to DC but I always wanted to see it when it was completed. While getting to know Rebecca two things were immediately apparent; she loved food and beautiful spaces. Whether it was architecture or natural landscapes she was always up for an adventure....as long as it wasn't too cold! When I first brought Rebecca to San Antonio to meet my parents I knew I wanted to see and explore Hotel Emma with her for the first time. I knew she would love it and wanted to share that experience with her. We were both in awe of Hotel Emma and the surrounding Pearl area. We walked up and down the north end of the Riverwalk and talked about a life together here in San Antonio. At that time I knew Hotel Emma would play a part in our engagement one way or another. Our truly wonderful and talented photographer, Jackie, introduced us to the Cibolo Nature Center after we expressed an interest in shooting part of our engagement session in a beautiful outdoors location. We knew we wanted to shoot in and around Hotel Emma and the Cibolo Nature Center was a perfect compliment to the Pearl District. We were hooked the moment she sent us some samples shots of the Nature Center. So all the credit goes to Jackie for making that location possible. Jackie is incredibly talented as a photographer and was so wonderful to work with. We don't say this lightly as we have been told we can quite picky!

How long is your engagement?

It's short! 1 day short of 3 months. We will be getting married exactly one year from the day we met.

Who proposed? How?

Jonathan proposed, with the help of his twin brother John Paul. I contacted Hotel Emma about the possibility of proposing to Rebecca on Christmas Eve at their Hotel. Hotel Emma secured a dinner reservation for us facing the glass doors overlooking the Riverwalk. The dinner was a ploy to get Rebecca to Hotel Emma. Secretly I had booked a room with a terrace overlooking the water. Upon request Hotel Emma provided me with a beautifully lit Christmas tree. I ordered several custom double sided picture ornaments of Rebecca and I and our adventures together. Whether the images were from our dinners out in DC or our trip the Grecian Islands all of the pictures were wonderful memories of our time together. The ornaments arrived the day before Christmas eve. The ring arrived the morning of Christmas eve. Paul was immediately dispatched to decorate the tree and wrap the ring while we were getting ready for dinner. Paul did an amazing job decorating the tree. I am still kind of shocked it came out so well. I had previously underestimated his artistic ability but he proved me wrong again. After dinner Rebecca wanted to take some pictures down by the water so we headed down. After a few pictures I told her there was something else I wanted to show her inside Hotel Emma. We proceeded to the elevators and she looked confused. She thought perhaps we were headed to a rooftop bar. Once inside the elevator I had to use a room key to access the top floor. She seemed even more confused. We walked towards our room and as I opened the door she exclaimed, "Is this ours?" Inside the tree was beautifully decorated and some light piano music was playing, compliments of Paul. At this point Rebecca was in shock. I asked her to look more closely at the tree. She was stunned as she realized the ornaments were our pictures. I asked her to take a seat by the tree as I look the ring out of the gift box. I told her that words alone would never explain how much I loved her but that I would be honored to spend the rest of my life showing her. I thanked her for everything she brought into my life and my heart and asked her to marry me. She said, "Yes, of course." There was one more ornament in the box with the ring. It was an "Our First Engagement" picture ornament that we hung on the tree together. The End!

How he/she pick your engagement ring?

Jonathan picked the ring after we initially looked together. We narrowed it down to a few different styles and shapes and then he surprised me with a ring he had made just for me.

How did you choose your wedding date? What is your Venue? How did you choose it?

We picked March 25th, 2017 primarily because it was 1 year to the day that we first met! We will be getting married at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa. We chose it because of the beautiful grounds and location.

What are you most excited about for your wedding day?

Becoming Mrs. Rebecca Lynn T. or AKA " BLT". For me I love Jonathan dearly and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him by my side. He truly is the love of my life.
